Tithes and Offerings

When people think of generosity, they might look at the size of the gift or the nobility of the cause. But Jesus measured generosity by a radically new standard: the condition of the giver's heart. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21).

So, giving is more than an obligation for followers of Christ; it is an exciting opportunity to lay up treasure that will last for all eternity. "The Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive' " (Acts 20:35b). Yet statistics show that U.S. Christians give proportionately less than we did during the Great Depression. Today, like no other time in history, God has positioned His people with unprecedented wealth and opportunity to glorify the risen Christ by mirroring His generosity.

Christ's Family Church believes that the body of Christ can reach its potential when each one is bringing their tithe (10% of their income) to the church. Although God is not limited to this, we believe this is God's primary way of funding His ministry. It is also the way that we put God in charge of our own individual finances. When we bring Him the tithe, we are saying to God that we trust Him to provide for us and even to make the remaining 90% to go farther than if we had kept the whole 100%. Our giving really is an expression of our faith and trust in the Lord.

It is very difficult for a person to give as much as 10% of their income if they haven't been taught about Biblical finances, or never trained in it by their parents. Many people feel with their level of income and their expenses that there is no way that they can afford to tithe. This is where we take steps of faith to believe and act on what the Word of God says, like Luke 6:38 "Give and it will be given to you; good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, they will pour into your lap. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return." Or like 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 "Now this I say, he who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully. 7 Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, that always having all sufficiency in everything, you may have an abundance for every good deed."

If you are already tithing we commend you on your faith and trust in the Lord in your finances.

If you have not been a person or family that tithes, there is no condemnation or shame to be found. But, here is a challenge to you to take steps toward that giving of 10%. Maybe just start at 2 or 3% and watch to see what happens. We believe that when you take steps towards God's way, He will show Himself faithful to you to provide just as He says in His Word.
